Meet Colleen Goodwin-Chronister

About the Artist:

I am passionate about painting! I currently call the Oregon Coast home, although I have lived on the East Coast and the West Coast and points in between. I earned my B.A. and Teaching Credential from California State University Fresno. My artistic journey began at the age of eight with a discarded set of oil paints and brushes...and I was hooked for life.

I believe that art is so much more than a pretty something or other. It is an evocative visual statement that connects me, my viewer, and my subject. I am mesmerized by the world that surrounds me, so I am never at a loss for inspiration. My paintings invite the viewer to "step inside"--to smell, to feel, to hear, to taste, to see beyond the image on my canvas. My challenge with each painting is to achieve a magically captivating experience in two dimensions.

My style is contemporary realism. My oil paintings reflect rich vivid colors, multiple glazes, intricate brushwork, and meticulous attention to detail. I have been told that my paintings seem to transcend the ordinary and have a surreal, almost magical quality.

I continue to show my work and have exhibited across the country including the prestigious National Arts for the Parks Competition in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Oil Painters of America National Exhibit in Carmel, CA. I have won numerous awards for my work, including over two dozen Bests of Show. My work is included in many collections, among them the Darrin Camarena Health Center in Madera, CA; former Oregon Governor Bob Straub; the Oregon Pacific Bank in Florence, OR; Keizer Civic Center in Keizer, OR; and the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, OR.
